I Wish They Taught Money in High School (So I’m Not Dependent on My Paycheck)

That’s the title of a book written by one of my ina-anak sa kasal Clarissa Seriña-Dela Paz. It’s a book designed for young people, i.e. those who are looking to solve the puzzle of life and living. As with parenthood (motherhood/fatherhood), a lot of things that young people will eventually be dealing with have not really been taught in school. Perhaps it was the idea that parents would do that, i.e. educate the children. But if the parents themselves have poor knowledge or know little about these things, then the problem is just passed on from one generation to another.

The book is co-authored by Clarissa’s friend, Sharon W. Que, who tackles the matter of how to start one’s own business.

The combined thoughts of these two young ladies and their practical knowledge are a valuable source of information and ideas that can provide today’s young with the right attitude and tools to achieve financial success.

The image shows one of the life changing paradigm shift that these two girls advocate. If we just keep on relying on what will be left of our income after deducting all our expenses, we will never come to a point where we will be financially secure. The authors suggest that a specific and periodic savings target be the controlling factor. In this manner, we can get our savings target more easily and efficiently. NOTE: Savings here does not necessarily mean something you set aside for old age. It can be something you set aside to be able to afford that trip to Europe you been dreaming of, or that new gadget you’ve always wanted to have, or that cute environmental-friendly small car you’ve been reading about, or that condo unit that your office mate could not stop raving about.

The book also covers some more advance topics such as Investments, presented in simple layman’s terms. There’s something for everyone in this book.

Enjoy the thrill of hunting down the book .
